We have been the victim of an email scam which is being sent to thousands of people via the internet. If you receive a letter similar to the one listed below, you can be guaranteed that it did not originate here. It will not bring you anything but financial cost, and a lot of heartache. We have no way of stopping the scammers from using our address, and so please do not blame us for this. We suggest you contact local law enforcement in the place where you are resident, and make a formal complaint to them. Hopefully one day the police will catch up with these people, and rid us of the endless emails we receive from people asking us if we know about this. The scammers have used various names of clergy both real and fictitious to sign the letter, including the current Archbishop of Southwark, Most Rev. Kevin McDonald. You can be guaranteed that these letters did not originate from the person who is supposedly signing them. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding. Here is an example of the letter, notice that some of the English is not very good, especially in the last paragraph.

Catholic Church 8a Battersea Park Road London SW8 4BH ATTN: On behalf of the trustees and executor to the Will of late Sir. Dennis Thatcher Estates. I wish to notify you that late Sir. Dennis Thatcher made you a beneficiary to his will. He left the sum of Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Pounds Sterling (750,000 BPS) to you in the Codicil and Last Testament to his will. This may sound strange and unbelievable to you, but it is real and true. Being a widely travelled man, he must have been in contact with you in the past or simply you were nominated to him by one of his numerous friends abroad that wished you good. Sir. Dennis, passed away peacefully in the Lister Hospital London after a brief illness at the Age of 88 years. He was born on May 10 1915; Died June 26 2003. Although he had enjoyed success as a millionaire businessman, Sir Dennis' Public fame owed most to his marriage to Margaret Thatcher the former British prime Minister. In a tribute to him at a news Conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, British prime Minister Tony Blair said: "Sir Denis was a kind and generous-hearted man, a real gentleman who had many friends here and abroad. Until death he was a very dedicated Christian who loved to give out. He was also a member of several non-governmental organizations, his great philanthropy earned him numerous awards during his lifetime. He is survived by his wife Margret, and twins Mark & Carol Thatcher and also two grandchildren. According to him this money is to support your activities and to help the poor and less privileged. Please if I reach you as I am hopeful, endeavor to get back to me as soon as possible to enable the attorney executing the Will conclude his job. You should forward along your telephone and fax numbers including your present mailing address. Looking forward hearing from you in no distant time. Remain Blessed.
